REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
1) As shocking as it sounds, sometimes what we do in the church does more harm than good. Can you think of examples of this through your “church” experience?
2) There are obvious differences in this text from the way we celebrate Holy Communion today. It was connected with a community meal. Have you felt that some churches are too limiting in who can participate in Holy Communion? Is Emmaus Church too “liberal” in who we allow to participate?
3) Think about the use of bread and wine. Why is it significant? How can we translate that significance to our context?
4) What is the unworthy manner to which Paul is referring? How does self-examination relate?
5) It seems that participating in the Lord’s Supper is a much more serious activity than we realize. Are we getting it wrong? Do you give it any thought?
