REFLECTION QUESTIONS
1) The centurion, the boat pilot, and the owner of the ship all thought it best to proceed. Paul was given prophetic insight and warned them against their course of action. Paul proved to be correct. What insight and application do you see?
2) A sea anchor is a device that is streamed from a boat in heavy weather. Its purpose is to stabilize the vessel and to limit progress through the water. It does not secure you in one place. Contrast that with Hebrews 6:19 (NIV84) “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf.” There were conventional anchors on board, but they were of no avail. They even ended up cutting them free. What are your anchors?
3) They threw cargo overboard. They threw the ship’s tackle overboard, limiting their tools to navigate through the water. They could not see the stars or the sun. They were unable to eat. They gave up all hope of being saved. But an angel of God told Paul to not be afraid and to keep up your courage. How do we remain courageous in such adversity?
